When you think of franchising what comes to mind? Certainly the golden arches of McDonald’s. But a local woman is applying that business model to health care and franchising the doctors office.
Specializing in emergency medicine, Dr. Mark Smith has seen it all. But after 12 years treating the sick in a high-stress atmosphere, the ER doctor wanted a change of pace.
“I have four young daughters and I wanted to spend more quality time with them. It’s nice not having to work nights and weekends so much,” said Dr. Smith.
Dr. Smith now treats his patients at Doctors Express in Jacksonville. An urgent care franchise changing the course of health care as we know it. This is the first of its kind in Florida. With 54 open across the country and more than 100 in the works, Doctors Express is getting some national exposure. The magazine, Entrepreneur, recently profiled two local medical pros about the business. Health care may not be the first industry that comes to mind for franchising, but for co-owner Ellen Sullivan, it makes perfect sense. Full post.
