Bicycle Powered Washers

By on September 23, 2012 in Inventions

A Sheffield entrepreneur has invented a bicycle-powered washing machine which he hopes could be used in countries with little or no electricity.

Richard Hewitt, a former design student, said he was inspired to create the SpinCycle after a recent trip to Burundi in Africa.

Mr Hewitt said he now planned to set up a company to build the bike in developing countries.

A news video about the SpinCycle can be found on BBC News.

Great guys in Sheffield; must be a cool place. Had a close friend from there. And hey…Joe Cocker is, I believe a Sheffield fellow. This invention of Hewitt’s is humanitarian, takes into account that electric power is not in use worldwide, and really makes a fine case for ‘do it, using what you have on hand..but do it well.’ Great idea.
