Shoes That Capture Electricity

Electric Shoe

Popular Science:

Humans are not very efficient. When we walk, we waste close to 20 watts of energy per second. Instead of turning all calories into lift or forward motion, we turn most of them into heat that’s quickly dissipated. So my colleagues and I came up with a way to harvest the wasted energy from human motion and convert it into about 10 watts of electricity.

What would you do with a constant supply of a constant supply of electricity?

Anybody remember the SOCKET, awhile back? The soccer ball that stores energy, so that, at day’s end kids after kicking the thing around…..can plug a lamp in it, and read their schoolbooks? It was invented by three Harvard gals, and I was thrilled to hear about such a brilliant combination of the play with the practical. Back to the shoes: Won’t somebody out there give some thought to this footwear, which seems at least purpose-wise, a not so distant SOCKET cousin???

well yea good idea but you made it wrong. you are using it to produce electricity that was your first mistake sorry. best regards FREELANCE ENGINEER…

I remember the soccer ball that produced energy too. It never ceases to amaze me what people can manage to turn into energy generating devices. Once the shoes harness the energy, how would we use it? Is there a secret plug in the side of the shoe somewhere?

Yeah, it makes me wonder if the shoes generates electricity, how can we use the electricity generated for our own benefit? But as what you can see in the picture, there’s a micro USB, I guess that is where you plug in your USB device and absorb the electricity? Just a guess. I think.

I think the idea is great if it can really generate constant power for an Ipod or celular phone.

What is the maximum weight limit that the wiring in the shoe can support?
