LA Gang Toursism

Do you live in an interesting area? Could you do the same thing in your community?

NY Times:

The tour organizer received assurances, he says, from four gangs that they would not harass the bus when it passed through their turf. Paying customers must sign releases warning of potential danger. And after careful consideration, it was decided not to have residents shoot water guns at the bus and sell “I Got Shot in South Central” T-shirts.

Borrowing a bit from the Hollywood star tours, the grit of the streets and a dash of hype, LA Gang Tours is making its debut on Saturday, a 12-stop, two-hour journey through what its organizer calls “the history and origin of high-profile gang areas and the top crime-scene locations” of South Los Angeles.

Scheduled stops include:

  1. The Los Angeles County Jail
  2. The Los Angeles River Bed
  3. The Metropolitan Detention Center
  4. Skid Row
  5. The Symbionese Liberation Army Shoot Out
  6. Florencia 13
  7. Birthplace of Black Panther Party
  8. Florence District
  9. Florence Avenue
  10. Firestone Sheriff Station
  11. Hall of Justice Jail
  12. Pico Union Graff Lab (Graffiti Lab)

I would never consider going on such a journey, to risk my life, as they’ve clearly stated that the tour is inherently dangerous with the risk of death.
If you’re truly curious about the life of Gangs, just watch this documentary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APFRKve4QiU and you might have second thoughts before attending this tour.
