Niche Restaurants: Mac & Cheese
By Dane Carlson on February 4, 2013 in Ideas

Homeroom is a “macaroni and cheese restaurant” in Oakland, California.
Homeroom specializes in macaroni and cheese made with artisanal cheeses from local cheesemakers, but we’re much more than a mac and cheese shop. We also carry nostalgic treats like homemade oreos and peanut butter pie, tasty veggie sides, homemade soups and a great selection of local craft beers and wine. We even have a beer float, with Old Rasputin stout and vanilla ice cream.
Sample dishes from the menu:
- Classic ($7.75) Homeroom’s super creamy, extra cheesy remake of the all-cheddar mac you ate as a kid.
- The Exchange Student: Macximus ($8.75) Big and bold Greek-style mac with spinach, artichoke hearts, shallots and salty feta cheese.
- Trailer Mac ($8.75) Cheddary mac with Niman Ranch hot dog and topped with crushed potato chips
- Mac and Blue ($7.75) Point Reyes Original Blue cheese, cracked black peppercorns and topped with toasted walnuts
