Mika Manninen and Helena Lumme are immigrants to the United States from Finland. Because you always crave the food of your youth, after moving to the US, Lumme would continue to bring back suitcases full of food whenever she had an opportunity to returned to Finland for her work as a grocery consultant. One of those foods was a milk-like beverage made with oats.

“We wondered if maybe others in the United States wanted a taste of the authentic as well,” Lumme said. “When we learned that the Oat Shake was nondairy, no soy, perfect for people with food allergies or who want low gluten, we thought, this is it, Americans will love this.”

Their company, Simpli, sells creamy “milk” without the dairy. There is also no high fructose corn syrup in their product. To try something like their oat shake at home, try this recipe.
