In China, Men Carry the Purse

By on February 8, 2013 in Featured

If Chinese businessmen are harbingers of fashion and style, get ready to sell a ton of purses! Hip Chinese men are now toting expensive purses that previously were exclusively the domain of women.

The 41-year-old investor was dressed in the unofficial uniform of Chinese businessmen: dark blazer, crisp white shirt, designer slacks, silky tan socks, hand-tooled loafers — and an expensive purse.

Lest anyone think the $500 Dunhill clutch with dual bronze zippers belonged to his wife, he proudly explained how his business cards, cash and two cellphones fit neatly into its buttery leather interior.

According to one report, in China men buy 45 percent of all luxury handbags!

“Its a satchel”…”Its a purse and mine had 80,000 dollars in it.”

Good point, I forgot that reference.

The man purse from the movie The Hangover:

Man bags go even farther back. Beauty Shop had a character named James that also carried one. To be honest, I am pretty sure they go even farther back than that. I just cannot think of anymore references. :-)

If there is man out there carrying that pink clutch, though, that may be a little odd, lol.

Well in Chinese culture, both men and women can carry purses. Personally, I don’t see any wrong in that. Perhaps it is just a matter of preference.
