11 Year Old Invents Pencil Ruler

By on April 16, 2013 in Inventions

An eleven year old named Nathan had a problem. While doing his math homework, he needed to measure something but couldn’t find a ruler. He looked down at the pencil in his hand and inspiration hit. Why not combine a pencil with a ruler?

Nathan found a manufacturer, but they require at least a minimum order of 1000 pencils, and that’s more money he has in his piggy bank. What’s an entrepreneur with a great idea and not enough capital to do?

Post his project to Kickstarter, of course!

Nathan only needed $350 to fund his business, but so far, with twenty three days to go, he’s already raised almost $2500!

Another Idea: How to Start a Pencil Business

I want to know where these where when I was in school. That is probably the best idea from a kid I have heard about in a while. Its so simple, yet it’s also very marketable. If the price was right, I would even buy them for my daughter.

This just seems too clever and convenient to not have been created already. This is such a great idea, I am not surprised that kick-starter showed such interest. This could be applied to mechanical pencils or colored pencils as it expands so there are some growth opportunities. I cant believe it was thought up by an 11 year-old!
