A reader asked:

I have so many ideas for businesses that I don’t really know which one to start first? Everytime I start something, I get distracted by a new business idea. Help! What do I do?

If your answer to the question “What kind of business are you going to start?” is something like “I’m not sure yet. I have a few different ideas…” stop immediately and pick one.

Hedging your bets by thinking about and playing around with a variety of different ideas is a huge waste of energy – you need all of your focus on the one thing you are going to do, because you need to do it extremely well!

Well, readers, how’d I do? Think you can answer this question better than I did? Respond in the comments.

Dear Bizz-Thinktanker: Here is my advise!

Make a list and evaluate the pros and cons of all of your bizz ideas taking into account to sales flow cash, profit, product design, time to design it, competitors, storage, transportation, distribution`s channels, second and third help you would need from others, etc… etc… Make a quick draft analyzis, don`t waste your time going in depth.

Then…pick 3 from your list. These 3 will be the best 3 according to your bizz evaluation. Then pick one.

The winner idea, it will be the one of which you feel or think you have strong knowledge, experience, references, money to invest on it… or you JUST FEEL VERY EXCITED to work on it. Then, focus on it !!!

Write your other old and new ideas both in a note-book and in your computer and keep them secretly, they could be your second chance just in case the selected idea doesn`t work.

Good Luck and I hope my ideas helps and I hope to see your bizz idea posted in this blog pretty soon.

Focus is a tricky aspect of business ownership for most. It’s so easy to have ideas, implementing them is another thing altogether!

When you’re trying to determine what business to start, you need to first gauge your chance for success. I suggest doing some market research. Gather some information about your target market, competition (yes there is always competition, whether direct or indirect), start-up and operational cost, and market demand. This information will help you determine the best idea to pursue.

I do agree with your answer. If you have already choose what types of business that you want to do just focus on that and do not think about other ideas cause it might distract you and you business might not be successful. Just write it done and when you think you business is already stably or it will never happen, only then you try your other ideas. Virtual Office Kuala
