Booming Niche: Kangaroo Meat

Victorian Farmers Federation president Peter Tuohey said yesterday kangaroo was an acquired taste, but the meat of legally culled animals should be available for sale.

“There are more roos around now than there’s ever been – I know because I’ve run into six of them in the last 12 months,” Mr Tuohey said.

“They are a real threat to motorists… and certainly put a lot of pressure on grazing pasture in certain places as well.”

The State Government is considering changing the law to allow the commercial processing of up to 30,000 kangaroos killed as pests each year.
