The “Life Light†is a combination lifesaver ring, marker buoy and emergency light that’s powered with renewable energy and a built-in battery. When the sun – and a swimmer in trouble – goes down, the Life Light’s LED light goes on, alerting rescuers to its presence.
When designers Tso Chu-Hao, Hsiang Hao-Tien and Chuang Tsung-Hua of Asia University in Taichung, Taiwan set out to re-invent the static shoreline emergency lifesaver they did so with one over-riding principle in mind: the device should be environmentally friendly without sacrificing its basic efficiency and practicality.
The result was the Life Light, an easy to install but difficult to remove lifesaver ring station that glows in the dark thanks to its built-in LED water battery. By making the ring visible at night or in low-light conditions, the team from Taiwan addressed one of the main issues that compromise existing ring emplacements: you can’t use it if you can’t see it!
