Sentinel-Standard:

Jim Patrick of Winn rejects the label “contraption” to describe the Do Nothing Machine put in his care by his older brothers.

This conglomeration that greets Ionia Free Fair spectators entering the Floral Building is made up of parts from farm equipment, car motors, a child’s toy box and whatever else brothers Roy, Evan, Ralph and Elmer Patrick of Buck Creek, Ind., decided to weld together over 20 years.

“It’s awesome,” observed Alexander Trowbridge, 12, of Vermontville. “It does nothing, but it is fun to watch something that does nothing – at least nothing productive.”

Alexander builds models out of Lego toy building bricks. He once even built a Lego blimp he believes weighed 10 pounds, so he appreciates detail.
