Global Garage CEO Views the Garage as the Front Door to the Home

At Global Garage Flooring & Design, they view the garage as the front door to the home. As one of the premier garage refinishing and coating companies in North America, Global Garage Flooring & Design through its network of dealers, offers complete garage finishing solutions from custom industrial strength concrete floor coatings to an exclusive offering of top of the line wood and steel cabinetry.

We recently sat down with Global Garage CEO Lance Jensen for an exclusive interview. He shares what he learned from his experiences as a franchisee and how he uses that knowledge to his advantage as a franchisor, what he’s passionate about and where he sees the Global Garage franchise in the next five years.

What’s special about the Global Garage Flooring & Design franchise?

Low-cost, underserved market. Franchisor is franchisee-centric. Small franchise and growing.

What is the idea behind the franchise?

Remodeling garages. The garage is the largest room in the house, it has the best storage, it’s the entrance for your friends and family and it can be the best or the worst place in the home. We make it the best!

How does Global Garage compare to its competition?

Very favorably. Most franchises in this category have minimum purchases. We don’t. Most have small territories. We have very large territories. Some are chemical manufacturers. We are not but simply bring you the best suppliers and vendors so we are not locked in. Our training is the best, most comprehensive in the business.

What do you look for in a potential franchisee?

Someone who is capable of both sales and operations. Someone who loves people and loves to work on projects. Energetic, intelligent and driven.

Where do you see it in five years?

50 franchises.

Can you describe a typical day in the life of a Global Garage franchisee?

Supervise your crew getting ready in the morning. Get them off to their job. Doing estimates, marketing, bookwork, checking in on and working with your crew at critical times. Customer walk-thru.

What’s your background?

Serial entrepreneur in the franchise business. Franchisee, master developer, developing other concepts. When it comes to working with franchisees I am very good at it because I can look them in the eye and say, “Let me help because I had your job.”

What motivates you to keep going?

Helping the franchisees grow, their profitability, their knowledge and know-how, and being involved in their lives and businesses.

If you were to start again, what would you do differently?

Screen potential franchisees more carefully. Vet vendors as carefully as I do now.

Please tell us your secret to success…

There are no secrets to success. I think Thomas Edison put it the best when he said, “Most people don’t recognize opportunity because it’s dressed in overalls and looks like work.” Success is simply made up of working hard, working smart and using your experiences to propel yourself and the people around you forward.

What is the worst job you have ever had and what did you learn from it?

The worst job I ever had was owning a franchise restaurant that didn’t make money. I learned the absolute necessity and responsibility of making sure the franchisees make money and experience success.

What is one thing that really excites you?

An awesome garage.

Any final words for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Work hard when you’re working, work smart, be prepared and absolutely drive you, your company and people around you to success.
