Hospice Service for Pets

A Connecticut woman has started a mobile hospice service for pets the The Stamford Times reports:

For pet owners, saying goodbye is one of the hardest things to do, but Stamford resident Mary Craig says her new mobile veterinary hospice service makes saying farewell a bit easier.

“I have heard from many pet owners that they wouldn’t get another pet because when they lost their last pet it was very difficult,” she said. “They mentioned that they would have rather done it at their home, which is a service that most veterinarians in this area don’t offer.”

Pet hospice is a relatively new concept, and is modeled on the human hospice service. Hospice is not a particular place, it’s an experience focused on giving pets a safe, caring, intimate end-of-life experience in their familiar environment. And, let me tell you something — it’s more profitable than just putting a pet to sleep in the vet’s office.
