Locksmith Franchise Key To New Start For Engineer

A former engineer has unlocked his entrepreneurial flair after deciding to become his own boss.

Richie Guy decided to take the plunge and become a locksmith after his hours at Komatsu were reduced because of the recession.

Stanley-based Mr Guy has taken on the franchise for LockRite Locksmiths for Newcastle, Gateshead and parts of County Durham.

“I’d worked as an engineer for over 10 years ever since leaving school. I enjoyed the job but was keen for a change, particularly in the current climate as my working hours were regularly reduced,” said Mr Guy.

“My interest in becoming a locksmith was really triggered by my cousin. We both thought it was an interesting career with good business prospects.”

He received help to buy the LockRite licence – the group has franchisees nationwide – from Be Franchising, which was set up by County Durham Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (Legi) Be Enterprising. Read full story.
