Pest-Control Business Turns Into Holiday House Decorators

Asbury Park Press:

In years past, Bill Cowley had looked for other options to pull in business for Cowleys Termite & Pest Services during the cold weather, a slower time of year for the company.

The Neptune City business tried other avenues, such as chimney sweep services, to bring in revenue. “The demand wasn’t there like we needed it to be,” said Cowley, who co-owns the company with his brother, Drew Cowley.

But that changed six years ago when Cowley found out about Christmas Decor, a franchise that installs and maintains outside holiday displays for houses and businesses. The company added Christmas Decor by Cowley’s.

“It’s filled that void in the demand in the five months that we were slow, for at least three of those five months,” Bill Cowley said.

The increased business is critical. While commercial pest control service stays busy, the residential side tapers off.

The company has 15 employees, six of whom work on Christmas Decor during the holiday season. It’s enabled the Cowley brothers to keep them working — and employed.
