The Subway sandwich chain reached a record of 33,000 total worldwide locations in June 2010 and finished out the year with a total of 33,959 stores, including 2,147 new locations that opened in 67 countries, seven Canadian provinces and in all 50 U.S. states. The new openings for the year include 1,006 international locations; 1,038 U.S. stores; and 103 Canadian outlets.

The new Subway openings for 2010 also included 559 nontraditional locations (179 in the United States and Canada), bringing the chain’s total number of restaurants in places such as airports, college campuses, convenience stores and hospitals to more than 7,700.

The chain reached the milestone of 10,000 international locations owned and operated by more than 6,000 franchisees. The total worldwide franchisee count is 17,000, which includes more than 11,000 U.S. franchisees. More.
