Bad Ass Coffee Changes Name To Appease Thousand Oaks

Ventura County Star:

A donkey has stirred up some trouble for Narinder Kumar.

Last month, Kumar changed the name of his Thousand Oaks coffee shop from Bad Ass Coffee to Royal Aloha Coffee “to make the community happy,” he said.

The quirky name has been a source of amusement as well as public outrage across the country — from pickets in Alabama to boycott threats in Arizona.

The Bad Ass Coffee Co. is an international chain with 60 gourmet coffee stores, including 53 locations in the United States. But no other locations have changed the name — which stems from donkeys that once hauled the coffee beans out of the hills in Hawaii. Because donkeys are cantankerous animals, the locals called them “bad ass donkeys.” More.
