BURTONSVILLE, Md. — 7-Eleven Inc. has plans to celebrate as its 200th Washington, D.C. area 7-Eleven store becomes a franchise operation. On Friday, April 21, a special ribbon-cutting will be held at the 7-Eleven store in Burtonsville, Md., as Lynn Chhay, the store’s manager since 1997, takes over as the store’s franchisee owner.

Lynn Chhay immigrated to the United States from Vietnam in 1985. She began her career at 7-Eleven in 1990 as a sales associate during her senior year of high school at Northwestern High (Adelphi) and was promoted to store manager in 1997.

“My customers come first, Chhay said. “Once the ribbon is cut, I’ll be back inside making sure my store always exceeds their expectations.

Like Chhay, other 7-Eleven store managers are being given a chance to become franchisees.

“Our local store managers have been given the opportunity to apply for stores in certain areas of northern Virginia, said Gary Gray, 7-Eleven division franchise sales manager for Maryland and Virginia. “This summer, we plan to open many franchise opportunities in those areas to the public.
