Bangkok Food Products Co, a unit of Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc, plans to add another 170 CP Fresh Mart outlets to bring the total to 500 nationwide next year, turning them into ”freezers for communities”.

Currently, there are 330 branches nationwide with 100 located in Bangkok and surrounding areas and 230 branches in the provinces.

The stores, with a minimum investment cost of one million baht each, offer fresh and ready-to-eat foods.

Traffic jams and expensive transport costs have helped improve the business of small retail shops located closer to consumers’ homes and prompted the company to add more branches, said Jakchai Nutprayoon, vice-president of Bangkok Food Products.

He said the stores were part of CPF’s food supply chain _ the last link to consumers. More than 300 CP and CPF fresh-food and processed products are available at the stores including chicken meat, pork, sausage products and dim sum.

The company also offers home delivery for consumers in Bangkok with a minimum purchase of 300 baht. It also plans to expand the business through a franchise format in the next two years.
