IHOP Likely Headed To Great Falls

Great Falls Tribune:

After several months of speculation, a developer submitted plans to the city of Great Falls for an IHOP restaurant at the former Elmer’s location at 1600 Fox Farm Road.

Stanley Wong, whose family owns 39 IHOPs in several states, owns the franchise rights for Great Falls.

“The site isn’t approved at this time, but it’s not unusual for a developer to begin applying for zoning and building permits before final approval from the company,” said Patrick Lenow, communications director of DineEquity, which owns IHOP.

The City Design Review Board will review the plans at its 3 p.m. meeting Oct. 27 in the Rainbow Room of the Civic Center. The plans call for an exterior and interior remodel of the existing structure.

Elmer’s, which was owned by John Toenyes, was built in 1984. It operated as a franchise until December, when Toenyes dropped his franchise and renamed the business Monty’s. That restaurant closed in June.

The Wongs have Montana IHOP restaurants in Bozeman, Helena, Kalispell and Missoula, as well as in other states.
