Everybody has heard that line before, but Mike Amheiser’s has the hardware and YouTube clips to prove it.
Amheiser won the American Pizza Championship at the Orlando Pizza Show in September. The owner of the Pizza Dock, a carryout and delivery store near the edge of this Knox County community, wowed the judges with his Mike’s Favorite Pizza. He won the show’s Best Pizza Maker in America designation and will advance to the America’s Plate Competition in March in New York. Amheiser will compete there against at least seven other countries for the title of World’s Best Pizza Maker and will go on to represent the U.S. in the European competition.
He’s been to Italy three times and won once in Paris.
“I just kind of ride with it,” Amheiser said of glory.
