Band-Aid Pizza Tops Shame List

Daily Telegraph:

PIZZA toppings seem to get larger everyday but a Domino’s Pizza outlet in Menai out-did all comers with a Band-aid left on one of its offerings.

That mistake cost the franchisee $1100 and tops the list of restaurants and food stores added to the NSW Food Authority’s name and shame website today.

A spokeswoman for Domino’s said the outlet had put new systems in place since Sutherland Shire Council fined it following a complaint from a customer.

The 29 fines added today take the total on the authority’s list to 502 since the website started in July.

“It’s a handful of individuals and companies that cut corners when it comes to food safety for consumers,” Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald said.

“These are the businesses that will be caught, fined and appear on the website for the world to see.”

Another business caught serving up some unsavoury extras was Martin’s Bakery in St Marys; fined $550 after alive and dead weevils were found in flour, food containers and equipment.
