Imagine operating a rental store that, within seven weeks of opening, had a customer count equivalent to 1% of the city’s population. That’s exactly what Aaron’s franchisee team of Dale, Dalene and Kimberly Jacobs made happen in the small town of Paintsville, Kentucky this month. Paintsville, population 4400, is located East of Lexington.

The Paintsville location held a ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration Monday, seven weeks after the soft opening.
Following the script developed by Aaron’s marketing team, the Paintsville store will reportedly add as many as 200 new customers this month – double the typical number for a new store in its 3rd month. The fact that the new store growth was achieved without discounting products for the grand opening makes the number even more impressive.
The successful opening proves that there remains underserved RTO customers, even in small and seemingly saturated markets. There are two independent rent-to-own companies in the small town of Paintsville as well as two furniture retailers. The Jacobs’ franchise is located directly across from Wal-Mart and sandwiched in between the two furniture stores. The proximity to furniture retailers prompted shopper comments on the style and quality construction of Aaron’s upholstered furniture line produced by its subsidiary, MacTavish. Read more.
