Les and Louise Newby, a husband and wife team who own Woodcraft franchises in Colorado, Utah and California, believe maintaining a successful franchise business hinges on good communication and solid operational support from the franchisor.

“I spend almost as much time talking to my contact at Woodcraft as I do my own employees,” said Les Newby, who purchased the first Woodcraft franchise back in 1998. “We merge my knowledge of the market with their operational and industry experience to come up with, hopefully, successful strategies that result in happy customers and increased sales.”

Woodcraft, a national retailer of quality woodworking products and education, has been in business for over 80 years. The company’s franchise program started with the Newby’s and, according to Gary Lombard, Vice President of Retail/Franchise Development for Woodcraft, the two parties have grown up in that part of the business together. “We’ve learned a lot from Les and Louise and I hope the feeling is mutual.
