Tier Ripe With Real Estate Opportunities

The Binghamton area is an affordable place for retirees and first-time homebuyers, making now the time to get off the fence and buy while interest rates are still low and inventory is plentiful, analysts said about the region’s housing market.

“We have homes that will accommodate people at both ends of the spectrum,” said Jennifer Arbach, president of the Greater Binghamton Association of Realtors. “That’s a good thing because we don’t want our first-time homebuyers leaving the area – that so-called brain drain. We want them to stay… so they can put down roots and continue to be part of our community.”

U.S. News & World Report named the Binghamton market the most affordable place in the nation to retire based on its low cost of living and access to arts and culture, sports, healthcare and other amenities that retirees want.

Recently released figures from the New York State Association of Realtors confirm the area’s continued housing affordability, which can be a double-edged sword in that prices are good for buyers but not as good for sellers who may be trying to move outside the region, where home prices could be much higher.
