Capriotti’s Growth Reaches LA

In a town known for risky bets, Buz Knyal found out one day that he had a sure winner in the bag — literally.
The Los Angeles entrepreneur was convinced of that while returning to his hotel not long ago with an order of subs from one of the many Capriotti’s sandwich shops in this gambling town. First, the hotel valet noticed the bag with its paper-wrapped subs poking out, a familiar sight to many a hungry Delawarean.

“Capriotti’s, huh?” the valet quipped, to Knyal’s amazement.

Next, he encountered a hotel security guard.

“I hope one of those are for me,” the guard said with a smile.

Within minutes, Knyal’s befuddlement turned to a conviction that his decision to become Capriotti’s first California franchisee had truly profitable potential. It happened when the third stranger in minutes magically divined the bag’s contents — down to the ingredients.

“That’s a Bobbie in there, isn’t it?” asked the poker room manager, referring to Capriotti’s trademark turkey, cranberry and stuffing sub. “That stopped me,” Knyal said. “I said there must be something to this.” Continue reading.
