2 Ruth’s Chris Restaurants Close As Company Struggles

Orlando Sentinel:

Two Ruth’s Chris Steak House restaurants closed last month as their Lake Mary-based parent company struggled with debt and falling revenue.

A corporate-owned Ruth’s Chris in Naples, open a little more than two years, and a franchise in Denver closed.

Denver seized the contents of that city’s Ruth’s Chris, saying the owner was delinquent on sales taxes. That franchisee owns two Ruth’s Chris restaurants in Las Vegas.

Ruth’s said it is working with potential franchisees to open restaurants in Denver, and Salt Lake City and San Juan, Puerto Rico, where restaurants closed around the beginning of the year.

A franchisee closed the Salt Lake City location, and the San Juan operation was a lease expiration, Ruth’s officials said.

A company spokeswoman would not say whether there will be more closings. She noted that two restaurants are opening — in St. Louis today and Durham, N.C., later this summer.
