Coffeehouse Chain Seeks To Fill Consumers’ Cups

Americans drink more than 400 million cups of coffee a day, and a local coffeehouse chain founder is expanding and franchising to better serve the java junkies.

Joe Valente is working to open his fifth Boston Coffeehouse and is willing to finance the franchise purchase of two outlets to kick-start the expansion of a business he started in 1996.

“I always wanted to franchise and grow, but I did not want to grow too quickly or extend myself. That is why it took so long,” Valente said. “It seemed like just when I was getting answers to every question about running this place, a new one would pop up.”

Valente, 41, came to West Volusia to be close to his parents in Deltona after earning a master’s degree in city planning from Boston University. He interviewed for a position with the city, but wearing a coat and tie in 90-degree heat quickly changed his mind about a career path.
