European Domino Effect

Domino’s Pizza Enterprises has entered a memorandum of understanding to buy the Pizza Company, which includes 15 stores in Belgium. A price was not disclosed.

Successful completion will take Domino’s outlets to 31 in Belgium. It has a further 150 across its franchise region of France, Belgium and The Netherlands.

Home deliveries of pizza are booming in Europe, where recession and freezing weather have made people much more inclined to stay home to eat.

Rivals have been posting 10 per cent growth in the past year as customers enjoy the comfort value and the convenience of online ordering.

Across the channel in Britain, fellow master franchisee Domino’s UK has reportedly enjoyed a 25 per cent profit growth in the past year, as people trim budgets and stay at home more. Read more.
