Human Bean Negotiations Continue

Negotiations are continuing between the state and a potential new owner of the Human Bean drive-through coffee franchise to get the shops reopened possibly by the end of the week.

Human Beans’ seven Colorado stores, including two in Fort Collins, were closed Christmas Day amid financial woes. They reopened last Wednesday only to be seized by the state that same day for $45,000 in back wages and sales taxes.

Rob Graves, owner of Morning Fresh Dairy in Bellvue, said Tuesday he is working with the state to catch up on those back taxes and get the stores reopened.

Graves is working with Human Bean franchisee Sam Wray and will likely become either a partner or new franchise owner once the negotiations are finalized.

Reopening the stores is not as simple as writing a check for the back taxes, Graves said, because Wray filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy a year ago. Continue reading this post.
