Golden Donuts (Thailand) expects tariff elimination under the Asean Free Trade Area to allow it to increase supplies of doughnut materials and packaging for Dunkin Donuts‘ franchisees in Southeast Asia.

“We’re likely to supply more raw materials for making doughnuts like mixed flour to other Asean Dunkin Donuts operations. All franchised operations would get an economy of scale from the buying pool,” said Nadim Salhani, the managing director of Golden Donuts, the US chain’s master franchisee for the country.

The Thai operation already supplies mixed flour to markets in Spain, Germany, Taiwan and Indonesia, among others.
Moreover, Mr Salhani said the lack of tariffs would draw more international suppliers to set up factories in Asean and supply products to their customers in this region.

For example, Puratos, a well-known chocolate producer from Belgium, has already set up a factory in China and plans another in Thailand as well. Read more.
