Canteen operator Julia Gandionco founded Julie’s Bakeshop in 1981 in Wireless, Mandaue. This was because she needed a bakeshop to address her canteen’s need for bread products.
She named the bakeshop after herself upon the urging of her son Bobby, who said that giving her new business an imprint of her personality.
Within six months, a second Julie’s Bakeshop opened in Urgello, Cebu City, and after three years, there were already 10 branches in the city. To supply the branches with baking ingredients and supplies, RJ and Sons, headed by Bobby, was created.
In 1988, Julie’s Bakeshop opened its first branch outside Cebu in Iloilo and this paved the way for the company’s growing success via franchising. The first Julie’s Bakeshop franchise opened in Mambajao, Camiguin in 1988 and in July of the year, Julie’s Franchise Corp. was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Read on.
