The operator of nine Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que Restaurants, including one at the Hamilton Commons shopping center in Mays Landing, has notified the state that significant layoffs are possible before the struggling company can reorganize or complete its sale.
North Country BBQ Ventures, of New Providence, Union County, told the state it may need to cut 48 jobs at the Mays Landing restaurant alone. Total job losses at all six New Jersey locations could reach 280. North Country owns two other restaurants in New York and one in New Hampshire.
The franchisee entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Dec. 18 after defaulting on several debts. Among its biggest creditors are US Foodservice of Englewood, Bergen County, owed $806,000, and Famous Dave’s of America, Minnetonka, Minn., $596,000. More.
