Crain’s Chicago Business:
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said it has a new tactic to pressure McDonald’s Corp. to change its chicken slaughtering practices: ambushing and haranguing executives at public or corporate events.
Representatives of the animal rights group have crashed an awards event for McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner, a Purdue University event attended by McDonald’s Chief Operating Office Don Thompson and a McDonald’s franchisee meeting in Arizona last week.
Peta launched its McCruelty campaign about a year and a half ago urging McDonald’s to adopt a slaughtering process for chickens it says is more humane than the company’s practices.
McDonald’s defends its animal welfare practices around the world, a spokeswoman says.
