A franchisee of a spa enterprise that has carved out a chunk of the $16 billion massage-therapy industry has settled in San Clemente’s Ocean View Plaza at 638 Camino de los Mares.
Massage Envy Spa opened in San Clemente early this month, joining the enterprise’s 17 other Orange County locations and more than 600 nationwide. The franchise began in Scottsdale, Ariz., in 2002. Four years later, the International Council of Shopping Centers named it a “hot retailer,” and in 2009, Entrepreneur magazine said it was one of the 20 fastest-growing franchises.
Kim White, owner of the San Clemente spa, says she’s no stranger to the Massage Envy family. The Redondo Beach resident also is co-owner of a Massage Envy in Manhattan Beach that has been open since 2007.
That location did so well that White decided it was time for another one. She said she chose San Clemente because she believes local residents incorporate health and wellness into their routines.
