Two potential Batavia restaurants that have been on hold because of the sluggish economy appear closer to opening.
In 2008, city officials approved plans of Dunkin’ Donuts to open a store in the former Schlotzsky’s sandwich shop at the corner of Randall Road and West Wilson Street. Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke this week announced there is now a franchisee for the restaurant.
Franchisee John Cywinski said he is interested in building a Dunkin’ Donuts store in Batavia. But he said plans are not finalized.
“We still need to meet with the city,†Cywinski said.
Cywinski owns a number of Dunkin’ Donut stores in the northwest suburbs, said Carrie Reckert, Midwest representative for Dunkin’ Donuts.
The store would have a drive-through window.
