Most of us, when we’re travelling in far-off lands, taste new and exciting things that tingle our tastebuds. We often think, “This would be great back home.” And then we head off to the next cathedral or museum without another thought.
But when Justin Lussier chowed down on a true Neapolitan pizza in southern Italy a few years ago, the first thing he did was find a pay phone. He called a couple of friends back in Edmonton and started a discussion that would lead to a partnership in what is now Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria.
Famoso has been opening franchises in Edmonton (four) and knocking down national and international pizza prizes ever since (Edmonton franchisee Dave Housman finished sixth at the International Pizza Challenge in Las Vegas last month).
