McDonald’s: McCafe Line Powers Profit

Business Review USA:

American sales for McDonald’s rose 3.8 percent in April as the company continued to profit from its McCafe line of affordable coffee drinks, breakfast choices on the Dollar menu, and the restaurant’s traditional offerings from chicken nuggets to fries.

McDonald’s is the leading food service retailer with locations in over 100 countries globally. The company launched the McCafe line of beverages early last decade. The beverages gained traction in the last couple of years during the recession when many consumers could no longer afford coffee and espresso beverages from higher end retail chains. The consumers, many of them commuters in need of a caffeine rush on the way to work, transferred their loyalties to McDonald’s, where they can get their daily fix without breaking the bank.

“McDonald’s continues to connect with customers through our outstanding menu variety and compelling value, unbeatable convenience and contemporary restaurants,” said McDonald’s Chief Executive Officer Jim Skinner in a statement. “These competitive advantages have powered our ongoing momentum and delivered another month of strong sales performance.”
