The correct answer would be both when it comes to Seattle’s Best, which is set to open a franchised coffee house in the Victorville Pavilion on Bear Valley Road near Mall Boulevard next week.

It’s a brand wholly owned by Starbucks Coffee Company yet run as a separate business. Seattle’s Best started out as a house brand at a Seattle cafe called Wet Whiskers in the early 1970s, at about the same time and place its better-known java sibling started concocting its brew.
