There’s a new school lunch program in town — the first of its kind in the province.
Unlike traditional school lunch programs, which tend to target disadvantaged students, the Lunch Lady program is designed to support time-starved parents, helping them provide healthy lunches for youngsters at elementary schools.
“We’re trying to support parents and make it easier for them,” said Ruthie Burd, the Toronto-based founder of the Lunch Lady franchise explained while in Regina for a “welcome lunch” at MacNeill School in Lakewood.
“Kids at school should have an opportunity to enjoy foods that are part of the school curriculum — teaching them the importance of eating whole grains, fruit, and fresh veggies.”
That’s why Lunch Lady menus feature healthy choices — like 100-per-cent pure fruit juices and whole wheat breads, wraps and buns. Read full story.
