BURGER BONANZA | Eugene’s West Brothers Ride A Hot Industry Trend

Consider the humble hamburger.

On one level it’s a simple sandwich of ground beef in a bun, dressed up with a few condiments and toppings. But the hamburger also is something of an enduring American passion, one that seems never to go out of style and is open to endless variation.

And Americans eat massive quantities of burgers.

Brothers Jim and Phil West, veteran Eugene restaurateurs, are tapping into that hunger with DickieJo’s Burgers, a retro, Southern California style burger joint at 201 E. 13th Ave., that in its first year saw lines snaking out the door on weekend nights. Now the Wests, through their company Westraunt Concepts, are preparing to replicate that formula with new outlets.
