Famous Brands Wants To Take On Soweto Taverns

Moneyweb.co.za:

Fast food chain Famous Brands now wants to take on taverns in Soweto following its planned R27m acquisition of pub and restaurant brands Keg and McGinty’s and says it is hungry for more opportunities in the leisure sector, but not as extreme as “gentlemen’s clubs” like Teasers!

“I’m excited about the opportunity of doing an entry into a market like Soweto to see how the consumer responds into that type of offering,” Famous Brands CEO Kevin Hedderwick told Moneyweb.

“We are starting to understand that marketplace… If you go to a tavern in Soweto, why can’t you go into a Keg or McGinty’s.”

Famous Brands, the operator of Debonairs Pizza, Steers, Wimpy, went public with its acquisition of Keg and McGinty’s on Tuesday morning, hardly a week after announcing its buy of an Alexandra born township chicken business called Giramundo’s.
