San Francisco Looking To Ban Happy Meal Toys

The McDonald’s Happy Meal has become as staple in American culture. Parents and children oftentimes look forward to eating at the food chain to enjoy a Happy Meal together while playing with the toys inside. However, given the nation’s obesity epidemic, one city is looking to prevent encouraging children from eating McDonald’s Happy Meals by outlawing the toys that usually come with them.

San Francisco: Extreme nanny state or extremely conscious public health advocate?

Illegal for Food to Come with Prizes
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco will hold its first public hearing on the proposed ban Monday, 9/27/10. The proposal wouldn’t ban the popular toy giveaways outright but would make it illegal for kids’ meals to come with prizes if the food exceeds city-set limits on calories, fat, salt and sugar.
