Smashburger Enters St. Louis Market

Bizjournals.com:

Smashburger plans to enter the St. Louis market in 2011 with its first local franchisee, Dave Schweitzer.

Schweitzer, president of STL Smash LLC and a 16-year franchisee of Subway, wants to open two to four Smashburger locations over the next year, Smashburger Chief Development Officer Ryan McMonagle said. They will be the first Missouri locations for the restaurant chain. Eventually, Schweitzer would like to open 12 local Smashburgers, McMonagle said.

Franchisees pay a $35,000 in franchise fee, about $40,000 in build-out costs and must have a minimum net worth of $2 million, McMonagle said.

Each restaurant averages about $1 million in sales.
