Burger King Pulls Back On After-Midnight Hours

MiamiHerald.com:

Burger King restaurants no longer have to stay open until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The decision, one of the first major policy moves by the company’s new management team, marked a victory for franchisees. Three longtime Florida franchisees have been suing the company for nearly 2 ½ years over the mandatory late-night hours aimed at helping the chain gain ground against competitors.

Franchisees have argued in litigation dating back to July 2008 that the late-night hours are unprofitable and unsafe for their employees.

“I’m extremely happy that we went back to the schedule we had two years ago,” said Ramon Morale, a Miami franchisee and plaintiff in the litigation. “People will stop losing money.”
