The New Skinny At Applebee’s

Newsday (blog):

Tomorrow starts January, the month of all the best dietary intentions.

Tapping into America’s weight anxiety is Applebee’s. The chain is beefing up its menu of dishes under 550 calories. One addition, a 7-ounce grilled sirloin ($14.99) topped with shrimp comes in a light garlic-herb cream sauce with herbed potatoes and vegetables. An alternative is teriyaki shrimp pasta ($13.99) — grilled shrimp with broccoli, red peppers, carrots, sugar snap peas, bok choy, water chestnuts and mushrooms over whole wheat Asian noodles in a cilantro-spiced teriyaki sauce.

And there’s also a teriyaki chicken pasta ($8.99).

For imbibing without caloric guilt, there are Applebee’s new “skinny bee” cocktails – a Margarita, mojito and Long Island iced tea, each for under 120 calories.
