Minimarts A Franchisee’s Dream Due To Easy Sign-Up

To understand the seemingly illogical ubiquity of minimarkets in Indonesia one must study the requirements of the companies’ franchise policies — and they make for light reading.

To open a minimart and keep it open for at least five years a potential franchisee need present only a plot of land for the outlet and start-up capital of between Rp 300 million (US$33,888) and Rp 600 million.

“First, to become a franchisee, I had to have a legal status, so I set up a legal company under my
name. I paid Rp 300 million and I just waited until all was ready.

All has been taken care of by the Alfamart officials,” Dewi, a franchisee in Kemanggisan, West Jakarta, told The Jakarta Post on Friday.

Alfamart is not the only franchisor that offer an easy service. Its biggest competitor, Indomaret, has taken similar steps to attract franchisees. Read on.
