Franchise Businesses Unveil Expansion Plans

Franchise businesses Wilkins Chimney Sweep and Good Taste Foods are expanding their businesses further, Insider can reveal. The companies unveiled their plans after research showed the franchise industry’s turnover increased to £11.8bn during the height of the recession. Pip Wilkins, operations manager at the British Franchise Association, told Insider the number of UK redundancies is a factor that has led to growth within the franchising sector.

Wilkins said: “People are leaving jobs with a redundancy package of sorts and then take the decision that rather than to go back into employment, they want to be in control of their own destiny and they’ll look at franchising then.”

Louise Harris, franchise director of Wilkins Chimney Sweep, told Insider she looking to take her franchise model into Swindon. She saw the recession as a perfect time to launch her franchise.
