Franchising A Key Driver Of Jobs

The Franchise Association of South Africa (Fasa) has urged the government to seriously consider franchising as a key driver to employment creation. Fasa believes the government is overlooking the sector, which can help it achieve its projected five million jobs by 2020, as envisaged by President Jacob Zuma.

Rasheed Kathrada, chairman of Fasa, said the sector was under-rated yet it had the potential to spur the economy.

“Franchising in South Africa is under-utilised and is not given enough credit for the role it plays in the economy, in stimulating entrepreneurship, in establishing small businesses that make up the backbone of the economy and above all in job creation,” Kathrada said.

According to Kathrada, the government should give more support to franchising as it could act as a catalyst to stimulating small businesses. Read on.
